"Logistics meets transport - quo vadis rail freight transport?"
FLAVIA project invites you cordially to the first public presentation of project results regarding the logistics improvement of the transport corridor CENTRAL EUROPE-Southeast Europe. will present interesting results regarding the logistics improvement in Central/Southeast Europe. We will give the participants some impressive insights from the point of view of FLAVIA transport operators and other decision makers. Together we want to discuss successful approaches to strengthen the rail freight transport. How can each group contribute to one goal – shifting freight from road to rail? But also current flaws and risks have to be considered like transport security, interoperability and operational barriers.
The registration form for the event can be found here.
We are looking forward to see you in Brno!
The German pilot brochure "Die Bahn bringt's" with 10 modal shift examples released!
The German partner "Allianz pro Schiene e.V." (Pro-Rail Alliance) released the German pilot brochure "Die Bahn bringt's". The brochure includes 10 best-practice examples. Pro-Rail Alliance interviewed various notable companies which decided to shift transport volumes from the road to the rail. Each example explaines shortly and lively the reasons for the modal shift and its successful implementation. The brochure will promote the shift of transport volumes from the road to the rail. The examples prove that the environmental friendly rail transport is a competitive alternative compared to the road transport. The CEO of the "Deutsche Bahn AG" - Mr Dr. Rüdiger Grube - complements on the brochure as a "very successful and very informative" piece of work.
Soon, the national brochures of the other FLAVIA countries will be finished. The German brochure can be found here.

Background
Accessibility is a requirement for efficient trade and subsequently for economic development and growth. Previous INTERREG projects (ECO4LOG and INTERIM) showed that different problems occurred in connection with intermodal terminals, market players and cross border procedures. The project FLAVIA continues this approach. FLAVIA will establish intermodal co-operation and develop the logistic corridor from Central to South-East Europe. Transport corridors can provide better access to markets. For that reason FLAVIA co-operates with the transport axis projects SoNorA and SCANDRIA. The role of logistics is often underestimated; it provides 10 % to the GDP. A main problem presents the decreasing modal split of rail and inland waterway despite of increased volumes.
Aims of the project
FLAVIA intends to improve intermodal cargo flows instead of building new
infrastructure. Hence the chosen approach will be a logistic process oriented by using instruments like
benchmarking, bottleneck analysis and accessibility analysis. FLAVIA will not develop a spatial planning
corridor or specific road/rail connection. Furthermore the project will implement measures for a better
interconnectivity and will promote the idea of intermodal freight transport respectively will encourage
market actors to use intermodal transport.
FLAVIA contributes to the three INTERREG CENTRAL programme
goals:
- Strenghtening territorial cohesion:
- Reducing of organisational, technical and administrative barriers in the intermodal logistic channels
- Further development of the logistic and trade relations between CE and SEE and the Black Sea/TRACECA countries
- Promoting internal integration:
- Reducing of organisational, technical and administrative obstacles of intermodal logistic chains to facilitate the free transport of goods
- Establishing different national and trans-national alliances regions, transport and terminal operators
- Enhancing the competitiveness:
- Supporting the harbour development at the Black Sea
- Improved accessibility by reducing bottlenecks
- Elaborating concepts for the intermodal security enhancement
- Elaboration of ways to green logistics
This project is implemented through the CENTRAL EUROPE programme co-financed by the ERDF.
